Police said a gunman held up a sandwich shop, sexually assaulted a victim, then took police on a chase through the southwest side of Oklahoma City before it all came to a crashing stop.
It happened Sunday morning at a Subway restaurant located at S.W. 59th Street and Western Avenue. Police say the suspect pulled out a gun and held up the only person at the store, a female clerk. He robbed her but it did not stop there.
Lieutenant Sky Kays with the Oklahoma City Police Department said the victim told police the suspect sexually assaulted her then stole her car to get away.
Police were able to track down the suspect, who was still inside the victim's car. The suspect tried to speed around a corner at S.W. 40th Place and Brookline Avenue when he lost control. The car jumped the curb and bounced over a tree stump before crashing into a tree in a residential neighborhood.
The man tried to runaway, but neighbors were able to delay the suspect for a short time before police got to the scene. They said the crash could have ended tragically because many children play in the area.
Oklahoma City police have not released the suspect's identity. He was arrested and booked on complaints of sexual assault and robbery.
Police say it appears the victim and suspect did not know each other. The victim was taken to a local hospital for treatment.
