Multiple Fires Reported In Oklahoma

OKLAHOMA CITY -- Wildfires are cropping up in various areas of Oklahoma again on Thursday.

Near Noble:

(4:55) Nursing home near the fire is okay and not having to evacuate at this time. But, city officials have put the nursing home on standby to evacuate in case the wind shifts.

(4:50) According to Chief James Fullingim with the Norman Fire Department, the fire in Noble is contained to a wooded area one-half mile North of Post Oak Road. No homes are being threatened at this time. No mandatory evacuations are being ordered.

(3:51) Reports are that the Noble fire has crossed Post Oak Road into Norman city limits.

(3:45) City officials confirm that a highway widening project was the source of the Noble fire.

(3:41) About six homes have been evacuated.

(3:36) Five fire departments are on the scene. The area that the fire is threatening is approximately two miles by one mile. Etowah north to Cedar Lane and 36th to 60th are blocked off, and mandatory evacuations are underway. Post Oak road is also closed in the area. 60th avenue remains open at this time.

Residents in square mile area north-northeast of 48th and Etowah are advised to evacuate.

One wildfire is reportedly burning near Noble, Oklahoma. The fire broke out near 48th Street and Etowah, near the town of Noble. Noble schools is dismissing students early. Students who can drive are allowed to leave and drive home. Parents also can pick up their children from school.

Cleveland County Sheriff Joe Lester reports that deputies are evacuating homes between 48^th avenue and 60^th avenue from Etowah north toward Cedar Lane.

Day Three Of Wildfires In Oklahoma

Shawnee:

(4:50) Residents of Brookridge Housing Development near Shawnee have been put on stand-by for evacuation.

(4:39) The Shawnee Fire Department is now fighting a fire on New Hope Road between Highway 102 and Bethel Road.  This fire is located about one mile north of Highway 9.

(4:30) Firefighters battling a wildfire three miles north of downtown Shawnee along Highway 18 at Moccasin Road. According to the Shawnee Fire Department, several homes are being threatened in this blaze.

(4:15) Fire reported along Highway 18 North of Shawnee.

Firefighters are battling a wildfire in Shawnee at Patterson Drive and Lake Road. As of 3:12 CST, the Shawnee fire has been declared as contained.

Near Lawton:

(4:35) The Lawton Fire Department has been asked to assist with a fire that began in the Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge and is now threatening the Mountain Village and Sheridan Mountain Estates.  Both are being evacuated at this time.

(3:47) Defensive action being established in Mountain Village and Meers for Wichita Mountains area fire. Structures are currently being threatened.

(3:21) Wichita Mtns. Wildlife Refuge requesting Wichita Mtns Estates VFD on mutual aid for Refuge fire 1 mile east of Visitor Center.

(3:16 p.m.) An additional fire is reportedly heading toward Trail Rd, Rogers Lane north to Hwy 17.

(3:13 p.m.) Multiple fires are now reported in Comanche County.

A very large wildfire is burning near Lawton on Trail Road North of Rogers Lane.

There is an additional fire one mile east of the Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge visitor center. The wildlife refuge is requesting mutual aid for this fire.

The east Lawton fire is reportedly growing quickly in size.

Northeast OKC at Midwest Boulevard near Britton and Wilshire:

(5:10) Firefighters have contained the fire near N.E. 91st Street and Midwest Blvd. to an 18-acre area. According to the Oklahoma City Fire Department, 11 of those acres are clear of any hot spots.

Here are the final figures from the OKCFD: crews from 25 counties in Oklahoma helped respond to this fire over the past three days. Three-hundred-seventeen firefighters battled the flames on Tuesday, 457 firefighters on Wednesday and 318 firefighters on Thursday. Some crews are now heading to Noble to assist with that fire.

Two-hundred to 300 people were evacuated over the past three days. Many people are starting to head back to there homes. Utility crews are still on the scene, checking the safety of power lines and working to restore power to homes.

The fire destroyed 25 homes and one business. Three homes received major damage and one home sustained minor damage.

Firefighters are in the mop up stage of this fire and will continue to watch for hot spots throughout Thursday night and Friday morning, but confident this fire is no longer a threat.

(3:30) The main fire from the past couple of days is contained for the most part. Crews are still monitoring hot spots in the area.

Northeast OKC at Hiawassee and Sorghum:

Firefighters contain a wildfire that was burning 5 to 10 acres off Hiawassee and Sorghum Mill.

59th and Westminster:

(3:22) Chinook helicopters still flying water drop missions over Midwest City for local fires. The fire is mostly contained.

(3:19 p.m.) The fire near 59th and Westminster has been contained.

School district officials have decided not to evacuate Barnes Elementary.
