OKLAHOMA CITY – A police chase in downtown Oklahoma City that began a few blocks west of St. Anthony Hospital ended near the Oklahoma City National Memorial late Friday night.
The chase started at about 11:10 p.m. near N.W. 10th Street and Blackwelder Avenue and ended near 6th Street and Dewey Avenue after going near the Murrah bombing memorial and museum.
Police said they were attempting to perform a traffic stop on a tan Jeep and the car refused to stop. Multiple police units and Air-One were following the tan SUV throughout the chase.
The chase ended approximately twenty minutes later after the Jeep went through two sets of stop sticks and had lost several tires.
Police arrested Kevin Hawkins. He's expected to be charged with alluding police and child endangerment because a child was in the car with him during the chase.
Police have not said why Hawkins tried to run. He does not have any previous warrants.
