Dozens of Puppies, Dogs Rescued from Oklahoma City Puppy Mill

OKLAHOMA CITY -- Dozens of Yorkies, Chihuahuas, and Malteses were rescued from a puppy mill Friday afternoon by Oklahoma City Animal Shelter employees.

"It angers me that people will treat animals this way," said field supervisor Larry Johnson.

Johnson helped rescue nearly 50 dogs from the puppy mill found at 18617 S.E. 134th street in Oklahoma City.

The animals were suffering from flea issues, eye problems, and some have tumors. Johnson said he has high hopes most will recover and will be available for adoption.

The owner of the property was not operating the mill but was leasing the property to an operator. Aurelia Snow will be charged with at least 40 counts of animal cruelty and is in the Oklahoma County Jail.

Snow was allegedly selling the puppies on NextDayPets.com. That's why authorities said it is important to thoroughly check out where you are buying your pet from.

"When you are shopping on the Internet, make sure you do your research. Don't just buy without knowing the condition of the parents. This is why they're in business. They're making money doing it. The only way to stop them is don't let them profit from it," Johnson said.

Shelter workers said the earliest the dogs will be available for adoption will be the middle of next week.
