OKLAHOMA CITY -- Some Oklahomans have not been receiving their mail, but the United States Postal Service says it's not because they aren't trying.
Snow and ice still cover a lot of neighborhood streets, but for letter carriers, their slippery problem is also still on many sidewalks, driveways and steps.
"If you have snow or ice building up on your curbside mailbox or on your steps or on your sidewalk please clear it so letter carriers can deliver your mail," said Sonya Dulan with USPS Oklahoma.
Letter carriers have the discretion to decide if a mailbox or mail slot is safely accessible. If it's not, they will hold your mail and try to deliver it again daily until the situation is safe.
"We want to get the mail to you as a customer, but we also have to take under consideration the safety of that letter carrier. We want them to work safely, not slip, trip or have a fall which would cause them to be off of work," Dulan said.
Residents with a mailbox should have snow and ice cleared at least six feet on both sides of the box in order to get mail delivered.
The Coffee Creek area is where postal workers said they have had the hardest time.
