As the coaching carousel turns...

I'd be stunned if Jeff Capel ended up at Arizona. But it's his job to win games, which begets attention from other programs, which begets phone inquiries from those people to-not the coach-but his agent/representative.  So when are people figure out it looks silly when they buy things hook, line and sinker when coaches truthfully say they've "not talked" with a school looking for a coach. Most of the times it's the agent working as the go-between-just as it should be.

I've been around and at times involved in coaching searches enough to know how most of them work. A lot of coaches just play with their lackies and homer media members who'd declare the earth was flat if the coach or a school rep emphatically told them that. It's quite amusing really. What do they expect coaches to say? "Yes, Arizona called, we talked, I'm considering it and will let you know tomorrow."

I expect Capel to remain at OU next season. But if Arizona did not test the waters with the top-drawer third-year coach, they don't deserve to get him, or Tim Floyd or Dick Vitale-back when he had a whistle in his mouth, a scary proposition.

So unless something funny happens, it looks like OU and OSU will have escaped with their terrific coaches back on the sideline.  In a nonsensical business, it only makes sense to me that the next  job openings that would make the Travis  Ford and Capel say yes are when Kentucky and Duke open up.  Coach K looks like he'll be in place for several more years. And if Ford doesn't leave until the Calipari Era ends, he'll win a lot of games in Stillwater.
