NORMAN, Oklahoma -- Some businesses in Oklahoma are struggling, just as they are all across the county. But one business in Norman is booming, because it's tapping into a niche market in the world of sports.
This booming business is hidden inside the old Boomer Theater. Through the door, up the stairs, and there it is at the end of the hall is the Old Hat.
"Old Hat is all about sports, design for the sports industry, whether it be web, video production or print," Old Hat Founder Zac Logsdon said.
The wall posters tell you a lot about what Old Hat does, and the big name clients it has. Graphic artists like Todd Adams create the products, like University of Michigan baseball posters.
"I like doing it. I'm a real perfectionist, so it's real satisfying to see. And I like the logos and the branding," graphic artist Todd Adams said.
In five years Old Hat has grown from one employee to ten, from five college clients to 45. And now the company has made its first foray into the pro ranks.
Recently Old Hat helped launch the Oklahoma City Thunder's Rumble mascot through a website and t-shirts. The company has clients across the country, but one area is tough to crack.
"You know, what's funny is right here in our area that we're in the Big 12 is probably the area that we have the least amount of clients," said Robert Smith, Old Hat Client Relations.
Zac Logsdon named his company for the old OU hat he used to wear. The old hat is still around, but his company is anything but.
