Ghouls go wild with the Flaming Lips

OKLAHOMA CITY -- Bricktown got an economic boost and a haunting as the Flaming Lips had a homecoming with some ghouls.

20,000 people covered the streets of Oklahoma City Saturday night for one of the biggest parades to celebrate the day of dead, an early Halloween.

Flaming Lips' Wayne Coyne is the brain child behind ‘Ghouls Gone Wild.'

"And people say ‘Wayne, why do you call it a death march? Isn't it supposed to be fun?' Well you know, part of the philosophy of the Flaming Lips is this idea of sort of embracing death. And once you sort of accept death and embrace that, it's not the enemy, it's part of life," Coyne said.

Thousands of die-hard fans came from across to country for the event.

"It's kind of very happy, very emotional, you got confetti everywhere. You got people dressed in all kinds of different things. So, there's no emotional state that really explains it," Flaming Lips fan Crystal Van Dyne said.

One thousand flaming skeletons took to the streets with torches raised high.

"A lot of them don't come from here. A lot of people are coming from other cities and coming in and just and sort of having this deathy celebration, sort of experience," Coyne said.

Coyne promises next year's festivities to be even bigger and more exciting.
