Recovering OSU student transported back to OKC

OKLAHOMA CITY -- It's been over two weeks since a deadly accident near Ponca City claimed the lives of three OSU students.

One student survived the crash but faced injuries and mounting medical costs, as he had no insurance.

Stephen Sellers was taken to a hospital in Wichita, Kansas.

Sellers said his costs were keeping him from home, and from his family's support he needed.

Three paramedics transported Sellers from his hospital room in Kansas to the Health Center in Oklahoma City.

"It's a small token we can give back to the family and help them out in a time of their need," Paramedic David Macy said.

After viewing Seller's story on NEWS 9, Macy said he recognized the opportunity to help turn the memory of a devastating crash into a bit of hope.

"He's a good kid and I wish him the best," Macy said. "I hope he has a full recovery."

Sellers said he wanted nothing more than to be in Oklahoma City while grieving the loss of his friends Kelli, Christian and Chris.

"It means a lot to be back home," Sellers said. "I'm really glad to be here."

The only person that may be happier than Sellers, is his mother, Lisa Schneider.

"The fact that they volunteered to bring him home at no charge, it's pretty amazing really," Schneider said.

Now that Sellers is back in the metro, he can concentrate on learning how to walk again, with the support of friends and family nearby.

"It's a long road, but I'm ready to get my butt whooped and fall down and try to, try to walk again," Sellers said.

Sellers still does not have health insurance and is facing tens of thousands of dollars in medical bills.

Anyone can donate funds to an account set up for him at any MidFirst Bank.

OSU students have also set up a fundraiser to help with Sellers' bills. It will be held Monday, September 29 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Texas Roadhouse in Stillwater.
