LUTHER, Okla. -- A 12-year-old boy who was shot in the head Monday by a 14-year-old friend has died, hospital officials said.
John White, of Luther, had been hospitalized since Monday when he was accidentally shot in the head by a 14-year-old friend.
White was spending the night at a 14-year-old friend's house near Luther when the handgun they were playing with fired. A bullet hit the 12-year-old boy in the head.
After interviewing the 14-year-old, police said they believe older teen likely pulled the trigger; but they are calling the firing an accident.
Authorities said a number of firearms were found inside the house. No adults were present at the time of the shooting, officials said.
The district attorney's office said he will only consider neglect charges only after the police have completed their investigation.
John's uncle, Lucas White, who helped raise the boy, said his nephew will be missed by everyone.
