Tulsa Police say a man has been shot and a homeowner arrested following an incident near 300 West Newton Street north of Downtown Tulsa. Police were first called to the scene near Pine and Denver around 3 a.m. after someone reportedly fired shots at a home.
Hasaan Thomas, 23, a woman and four children all under the age of seven were inside the house at that time, officers said. Following those initial calls to police, officers said someone drove up to Thomas' house while he was trying to get his family out of the home.
Police said Thomas shot at the driver, not knowing if they were the same person who had just shot at his house. After the shooting, police said Thomas took off.
Officers arrived on scene, and police said one of them saved the wounded driver's life.
"The individual apparently suffered what was described as a life-threatening injury to one of his extremities and was suffering from arterial bleeding," said Corporal James Stump.
"The officer first on scene applied a tourniquet. Was able to stop the bleeding, and doctors credited the officer to saving this man's life."
Police said Thomas and the victim are friends. They're not sure what the victim was doing at the house right after the first shooting, but they said he is expected to be all right.
Thomas was arrested at another location a short time later. He was booked on a complaint of assault with a deadly weapon.
