The Pawnee County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a homicide after someone discovered human remains inside a burned mobile home Thursday. The scene is just south of Cleveland. The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation has been asked to assist with the investigation.

Sheriff Mike Waters said firefighters put out a fire at the mobile home, located in the 54000 block of South 36250 Road, June 6.

Deputies said a friend of the person who lives in the home came over to check on the property and found what appeared to be a human skull. He got the attention of a nearby deputy on patrol to report it Thursday.

“The deputy came out. He checked it out. He indeed, believed it’s possible to be a human skull,” Undersheriff Richard Sterling said.

Investigators said they haven't been able to make contact with the person who lives on the property.

The Pawnee County Sheriff’s Office, Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation, medical examiner, and state fire marshal are investigating.

"The fire marshal will do his investigation," Sterling said. "He will try to determine if there is truly foul play, arson. And we'll go from there, and we'll start trying to follow leads and question people."

If you saw anything suspicious on June 6th in the area north of Highway 412 near South 36500 Road, call the Pawnee County Sheriff's Office right away.
