An 18-year-old man is behind bars in Pittsburg County after deputies said he shot and killed a man in the middle of the road.
Pittsburg County Sheriff Chris Morris says the victim’s girlfriend was there when the shooting happened. Her family says she held 21-year-old Lane Crawley while he died near Krebs Lake Road and Jerry Smith Lane near Krebs, OK. They said the couple had been fishing Sunday afternoon.
Sheriff Morris said when they were driving home, they were flagged down by Tyas Short and a juvenile. They said when Crawley stopped, the men got into an argument. Morris said Crawley was trying to get back in his pick up when Short followed him and started shooting.
“We do know he was hit multiple times,” said Morris.
The sheriff said he believes the two were acquaintances, but his team has not discovered a motive for the shooting.
“For him to flag him down in the road and have an altercation, there had to be some kind of emotions involved from a previous incident,” Morris said. “We just don’t know yet.”
The Crawley family attorney said Lane had some troubles in the past but said he had really cleaned up his life and was planning on marrying his girlfriend today April 8th.
Sheriff Morris said Short is in jail on a first-degree murder complaint, but the investigation is not over.
“We’re still doing some investigations and interviews with some witnesses and some other people,” he said. “Hopefully we’ll find out a motive or some more information today.”
Crawley’s family said Lane loved life, fishing, and camping. They want the community to know he was a good man.
