A former, long-time Tulsa County Clerk has died.

Sally Howe Smith died Thursday at the age of 66. Smith worked in the clerk's office 45 years, 24 years of that as the elected court clerk.

In 2014, she was named in a federal lawsuit by Mary and Sharon Bishop-Baldwin after she denied them a marriage license.

Sharon Bishop-Baldwin posted a message of support on Facebook, saying "Although Sally was the defendant in our federal marriage equality lawsuit, she was far more supportive of LGBTQ rights than most people ever realized."
