A Florida woman is facing charges including neglect after her 3-year-old son almost drowned in a hot tub at a Daytona Beach resort while she was intoxicated, according to authorities.
The mother was with the boy, his twin brother, and the children’s father in a hot tub at Perry’s Ocean Edge Resort in Daytona Beach around 10 p.m. on Sunday, March 24.
According to an affidavit from the Daytona Beach Shores Department of Public Safety, The father was swimming with the boys in the hot tub when they were alerted that the pool area was closing. He then took the boys to a table where Connolly was so he could pack up the family’s belongings.
Surveillance footage released by law enforcement, showed the children standing unsupervised on the hot tub’s interior seat before one boy steps into the middle of the hot tub and goes underwater. About two minutes after the boy initially went under an employee turns the hot tub’s jets off, jumps into the tub and pulls the child out.
Employees and a woman at the resort reportedly performed CPR until the child began to breathe again. He was then taken to a hospital.
Police said that during interviews with investigators the mother Apryl Connolly and the children’s father each allegedly admitted to consuming marijuana, alcohol, and oxycodone.
Connolly was arrested and charged with neglect. She is in jail without bond, the boy is in stable condition.
