American Buttercream Frosting
2 cups shortening
1 t clear vanilla extract
1 t almond extract
1 t butter flavor
½ t salt
¼ cup light corn syrup
2 lbs powdered sugar
1/2 -3/4 cup hot water
Prep Time: 30 minutes
Directions:
In a stand mixer, using a paddle attachment, cream together the shortening, extracts, salt and corn syrup until smooth or for about 3 minutes.
Carefully add the powdered sugar to the shortening.
With the mixer set on the lowest speed, slowly add the hot water in a steady stream. The amount of water depends on the stiffness of the icing that is needed.
When all the ingredients are combined, turn the mixer speed to high and continue to mix until smooth.
It can be stored in an airtight container unrefrigerated for up to two weeks.
