Suspect In Custody Following Standoff In Midtown Tulsa

A suspect is in custody following a six-hour standoff in Midtown Tulsa, police said.

Police blocked part of a neighborhood near Brookside at 31st and Madison, trying to get the suspect out from hiding in a home.

Glenn Shephard, 34, was arrested on two counts of second degree burglary.

Officers said while Shephard was hiding inside the home, he called 911 and told police he was armed and would kill them.

The standoff started around 2:30 p.m., when police say a man noticed someone had been in his home because the garage door was up and several things were missing.

Police learned that Shephard moved on to the house next door, by crawling through the window. The house was vacant and he stayed there for the next several hours.

After Shephard failed to comply with multiple commands for him to come out with his hands up, police broke down the door and found him hiding with no weapons.

"He said he was inside the house. He said he had a rifle pointed at officers, he would kill officers, if they did not leave the area," Tulsa Police Corporal, Matt Arnold said.

Shephard is expected to be booked into the Tulsa county jail.
