The suspect's name is Terry Markham. He's a convicted felon, now wanted for first-degree murder.
Police say because the shooting happened at a QuikTrip, they have great surveillance video of what happened leaving them with few questions.
"For anybody to want to go do this sort of thing on a QuikTrip lot is beyond me. It's quite obvious anything you do at a QuikTrip is gonna be recorded," said Tulsa Police Sergeant Dave Walker.
However, Sergeant Walker said the motive isn't entirely clear.
"I don't think this murder is over drugs. It may be over some sort of debt or as my son says, 'it's just adults misbehaving’,” Walker said.
Walker said Markham and Cotton knew each other and recently had a disagreement.
"The investigation actually takes us back probably a couple days before," Walker said.
Police said Markham was following Cotton in the moments leading up to the shooting, which happened as Cotton and a woman were walking out of the store.
"You can see there's some sort of reaction from our victim, but it's not like he got shot. It's like he got scared. And then he gets shot," Walker said.
Jerry Glass lives nearby and said he still feels safe but will be more aware of his surroundings.
"Especially when I have kids outside around my house, I'm gonna be more alert," Glass said.
Cotton was 33 years old. Police believe Markham is armed so if you see him, call police.
