Verizon Service Restored To Tulsa Emergency Services, Cell Users

A Verizon service outage affected several areas in Oklahoma Wednesday.  The outage in Oklahoma impacted emergency services in several cities as well as cell phone users Wednesday morning.   

Tulsa communications confirms that service is restored to fire and police.

Cell customers should also have their service restored. Verizon recommends powering your phones off and back on to reconnect to the network.

An outage map shows service was disrupted in Tulsa, Oklahoma City and Lawton areas. News On 6 had reports that it was caused by a cut fiber line, but the company has not verified that.

Oklahoma Highway Patrol, Tulsa Police and Fire, and Vinita Police are just a few of the services that were affected. The outage means the laptops in city vehicles weren't working, reports state.

Tulsa Fire Department said they lost computer-aided dispatch information and GPS, but they are using backup methods including map books. 

Tulsa Police say there was no lag in response to calls, but officers couldn't access vehicle computers to write reports etc. Radios and bodycams were still recording.

EMSA tells us supervisors can't access Verizon cell phones, but radios are still working and crews are responding to calls.
