Hundreds of 5th and 6th graders at Jenks East Intermediate are playing in a dodgeball tournament to raise money for their school

The school's PTA organized the tournament and they say the money will pay for a variety of school needs from class supplies to standing desks for students who learn better standing up.

Students and teachers returned from the walkout nearly a couple weeks ago, so principal Linda Reid says they're aware that the dodgeball competition is about more than just having fun, it's also about helping their school.

"We don't discuss that really during the school day. Obviously, we are here to teach kids content, but it is something we have to deflect from because they are very aware of what's going on and they value their teachers."

This marks the 3rd year of the dodgeball tournament.
