Family Member Runs Over, Kills 2-Year-Old Boy, TPD Says

A community is grieving after a toddler was hit by a car and killed.

Police said a family member ran over a 2-year-old boy while trying to leave a family get together.

Police said children were playing outside near North Erie Avenue Saturday evening around 5:30 p.m.

The driver asked someone to make sure none of the children were in the way but when the driver started to pull off, she told police she felt a bump.

"If you know there are going to be children around before you start your vehicle in motion start very slowly that way if there is a child or somebody there they see the vehicle move and they have time to get out of the way," said Sergeant Steven Florea.

No word on whether the driver will be charged.

Police said the incident is still under investigation.
