We are just four days away from a statewide teacher walkout and at least one district, Bartlesville Public Schools that first started talking about a teacher walkout, may now stay in school on Monday.
The Bartlesville Education Association worked with the Oklahoma Education Association to set the April 1st deadline for lawmakers to come up with a plan to fund education, including higher teacher pay.
Now, Bartlesville says they may go to class Monday, if Governor Mary Fallin does indeed sign the latest $447-million tax package which passed the state Senate late Wednesday.
The School District posted the following statement on their Facebook page Thursday morning:
"The situation remains fluid and undetermined at this point. Any suspension on Monday will be announced via School Messenger and also posted here and on the district website’s homepage."
Bartlesville says the measure addresses the district's key issues, which are meaningful teacher raises for the 2018-2019 school year and operational funding for schools.
While Bartlesville may go to school Monday if the governor signs the bill, that may not be the case for other districts in the state.
The Oklahoma Education Association says despite the latest movement at the state capitol, they are still pushing for the statewide walkout on Monday, April 2nd.
