Several people living at Owasso’s Wildwood Apartment complex reached out to News on 6 for help.
They say that every time it rains, nearly a dozen apartments flood. With the heavy rain we saw over the past 24 hours, it happened again Tuesday.
One woman says her apartment has flooded at least six times over the past six months.
Jennifer Steeves says, “we’re having a lot of flooding water in our apartments and this was the fix – to get sandbags.”
Steeves says the property manager told her last year that she needed sandbags to keep the water out of her apartment.
The repeated flooding has caused damage to Steeves’s apartment. The linoleum peels up from the floor and, she says, sometimes there is mold beneath it.
“There’s a lot of disabled elderly people here,” said Steeves. “I don’t think it’s right that just because we are on state programs that we have to live in these type of conditions.”
One tenant, who wished to remain anonymous, said rain comes in through her ceiling, and some of the ceiling is crumbling.
According to Steeves, “if you go to the office and say anything, they’re like, ‘we don’t have any money in the budget.’”
When News on 6 tried to talk to the property manager, the manager’s response was “unfortunately, I can’t speak to you guys. I do have to ask that you guys leave the property.”
The property is managed by BK Multifamily Services out of Irving, Texas. Wednesday, they gave an official statement saying, "Necessary repairs are being addressed and we have no other comment."
