Freezing Drizzle, Sleet Impact Parts Of Eastern Oklahoma

Freezing rain and sleet impacted portions of eastern Oklahoma. It started around 3:00 Wednesday afternoon and continued into the evening.

The weather caused chaos on roads across Green Country. In Tulsa, EMSA responded to numerous motor vehicle accidents Wednesday. As of 8:20 p.m., EMSA crews responded to 38 different crashes.

Most of the crashes have been on highways and are being attributed to weather conditions such as slick road surfaces and low visibility.

Tulsa City crews worked to make sure roads were safe.

The City said it has 67 truck-mounted salt spreaders - about 47 of those have snow plows, 170 employees, about 11,500 tons of salt and two salt brine systems.

The winter precipitation also canceled several flights at Tulsa International Airport. The airport said it pre-treated the runways and that they remained open. However, airlines were canceling flights.

A travel advisory is in effect until 6 a.m. Thursday.

There is at least one fatal wreck reported near Bristow on Highway 16.

Two trucks crashed into each other Wednesday evening - one was carrying a horse trailer.

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol is investigating the crash and have not said if weather was a factor, but News On 6 crews in the area said roads were slick due to the precipitation.

Overnight, precipitation should lighten up and become more spotty as this wave moves out. During the morning commute, areas of spotty freezing rain will still be possible but most of it will be north into southeastern Kansas.

Temperatures will warm above freezing by late tomorrow morning. Another storm system will bring rain through the area tomorrow afternoon and tomorrow night. Temperatures should stay above freezing.

It's an active pattern, with another storm system Friday night into Saturday morning. A few storms will be possible Saturday late morning into the early afternoon then it's much quieter for the end of the weekend.
