Heavy Rain Causing Flash Flooding In Green County

Continued heavy rain is causing problems for several parts of Green Country but especially areas west and northwest of Tulsa. Flash flood warnings are in effect through 8:45 p.m. for Osage and Pawnee Counties.

Rain gauges are overflowing and some roads are washed out after 5 to 6 inches of rain that fell within 6 hours for some areas. 

Pawnee County Emergency Management Director Mark Randall said they are asking Cleveland residents to restrict their water use after the flooding caused a problem at the city lake. A logjam clogged up the intake to the city water plant, and it's too dangerous to get out in a boat and clear the pipe, he said.

At this time, the city just has what's on hand in the tower, so they're asking residents to conserve their water use.

In Pawnee County, viewers sent photos of 5200 Road west of Highway 99 (near Hallett) and 5400 Road about a mile & a half east of Highway 18 (near Maramec) which have both washed out.

Pawnee Public Schools said due to the heavy rains, they are allowing parents to pick up their kids early. Buses will still run, but there will likely be delays.

According to the Oklahoma Department of Transportation, Highway 64 between Highways 18 and 99 is flooding in Pawnee County. The Cleveland Fire Department said the only place the highway is closed is at 99. There is no thru traffic there.

State Highway 15 a mile west of Interstate 35 near Billings is also experiencing flooding, according to ODOT.

They remind drivers:

• Do not drive into standing water
• Obey barricade signs and do not enter areas under water.
