McIntosh County deputies are working to identify a body found in Eufaula.
Law enforcement officials from several different agencies are working the scene along with the medical examiner.
The investigation began when officers received a call early Wednesday morning from a man saying a body was found in an overgrown field on his neighbor's property.
Officers said since the woods are so thick it's going to take hours to finish their investigation. They said it's going to be at least a week until we know whose body was been found.
There is a group of people hoping that it is their loved one, Damion Martin. The 21-year-old was reported missing to the Eufaula Police Department on September 21.
The task force has been out every day since the report was filed following leads, trying to find Martin.
Eufaula Police Chief Don Murray said, "Many people, I understand, want to believe that it is Mr. Martin that we have located but there is no way we can say that. The condition in the state of the remains is such that the state medical examiner is going to have to determine the identity."
They don’t know if the body is him, but Martin's entire family is at the scene, desperate for answers.
"Ultimately the only thing I want is to find out where my son is at so I can put him at rest," said Martin's mother, Wanetta Martin.
Martin’s family said they just want closure.
