Broken Arrow Students To Notice Changes Throughout School Year

School is back in session in Broken Arrow, and students will notice some changes this year.

District leaders said they've spent all summer making updates just in time for the new school year.

Perhaps the biggest change is a new elementary school, Timber Ridge Elementary, which is just north of Kenosha on East Avenue.

Construction began in May of last year as part the 2015 bond issue.

The district says around 550 students are currently enrolled at the school with 29-percent of those students set to take part in the district's English language learners program.  That's the highest number in the school district.

Timber Ridge also has a gym which doubles as a FEMA approved safe room.

District-wide, more than 50 "drop it and drive" signs are also in place, encouraging you to avoid texting while driving.

The district said all school crosswalks have been repainted with a new crossing near Oneta Ridge Middle School and Highlands Elementary.

District leaders said there's more to come.

"We still have a few projects still in progress that we'll kind of take throughout the year. I think one of them goes through the spring and then we're working on more. We're just growing so much," said BA spokesperson Charlie Hannema.

This year, elementary doors open at 8:45 a.m. instead of 8:30 a.m.
