Three people are being held on first-degree murder complaints in the Cherokee County jail.

They're accused of beating a man to death with a rake in the Welling area Monday.

Undersheriff Jason Chenault said John Johnson, Stephanie Brashears, and Lyla Foreman got into an argument with James Andrew Clay sometime Monday afternoon.

The undersheriff said the argument escalated into an assault with a rake and Clay was killed.

The sheriff's department hasn’t said what the argument was about or exactly where in Welling the attack took place.

It’s also unknown if all three actively participated in the attack.
