An Atoka teen drowned in Coal County’s Coalgate Lake Tuesday evening. Officials recovered the 17-year-old boy from the lake at 7:05 p.m.
Oklahoma Highway Patrol officials report that the teen swam about 30 feet from shore toward a concrete water intake around 5 p.m.. On his attempt to swim back to shore, he submerged and never resurfaced, an OHP report states.
He was not wearing a life jacket, OHP said.
Local officials made the recovery in 15 feet of water about 30 yards from shore on the east side of Coalgate Lake. The victim was transported to Browns Funeral Home in Coalgate, the investigating trooper said.
