Tulsa police are investigating a shooting death in east Tulsa. They were called to the 6300 block of South 107th East Avenue around 7:30 a.m. Tuesday, December 20.
Sergeant David Walker said a woman found her son shot to death at the South Port Apartments near 61st and Highway 169. Police said the victim is between 30 and 35 years old but have not yet released his name.
He had a gunshot wound to the head, police said.
The sergeant said there was no sign of forced entry, and no weapon had been found. They don't believe the shooting was random.
A neighbor told officers they heard a disturbance around 1:30 to 2 a.m. and may have heard a gunshot. Detectives believe the man had been lying in the apartment for a few hours.
Neighbor Cody Tienken said, "I walk up a little bit more and see the crime scene tape and I'm like, 'Ah, crud.'"
Investigators believe the culprit knew the victim and the apartment.
"Does not look like there's forced entry; does not look like there's a big fight inside," Walker said.
After arriving on scene early Tuesday morning, officers put crime scene tape up around the entrance to the unit and waited for a warrant to continue their investigation. They also went door to door to try to find someone else who may have heard something.
Neighbors crowded around, watching was was going on. They said it's scary to see something like this happen so close to them.
"This stuff doesn't happen for me out here as much," Tienken said. "It's just shocking to see all these cop cars lined up on my street."
This is the city's 79th homicide of 2016.
