Former Tulsa Mayor Kathy Taylor is returning to work at City Hall. Mayor-elect Republican G.T. Bynum tells our partners at The Frontier Taylor will serve as chief of economic development when he takes office December 5.
Taylor, a Democrat, served as mayor from 2006 to 2009 when she then chose not to seek reelection. She decided to run for mayor again in 2013 and lost to current mayor Dewey Bartlett.
Bynum tells The Frontier, "I don't think there is anyone in the world more qualified to lead our economic development efforts here in Tulsa than she is."
Taylor said building a better economy requires good schools, safe neighborhoods and an overall good quality of life, adding that the majority of new jobs are going to come from small businesses.
Taylor will not be taking a salary.
