The midtown Tulsa Church of Latter Day Saints withdrew its application to expand a parking lot. Had the petition gone through, neighbors who live near the 36th and New Haven church feared it would have put the owl population at risk.

Under the application, church developers would have torn down several empty homes along with multiple trees. Over the past month, community members have rallied together hoping to get city representatives to vote down the application.

Owl advocates also started an online petition opposing the demolition of the homes and trees.

Early Tuesday morning, developers sent an email to city and county representatives saying at this time they would like to “respectfully request”  to withdraw their application to build. No word on if they’ll revisit the plan.
