The Oklahoma Department of Transportation plans to remove the northbound truss bridge over Bird Creek early Sunday, weather permitting.
Crews will detonate a controlled implosion at about 6 a.m. on the center span of the Highway 169 bridge.
The department says the demolition is part of the ongoing $45 million widening project on the highway between Owasso and Tulsa. They say the explosion will cause the steel structure to drop to the ground below where it can be dismantled and removed.
About 30 minutes prior to the detonation, ODOT will stop traffic on 169 from 56th Street North to 66th Street North. In addition, there will be a 1,500-foot clear zone surrounding the bridge prior to the demolition.
Back in December 2015, the department removed the southbound truss bridge over Bird Creek.
