Broken Arrow Police arrested two Tulsans after an officer spotted a stolen car outside a motel. The officer was patrolling the parking lot of the Canterbury Hotel in the 1300 block of North Elm Place when he saw a woman driving a black Lexus, according to an arrest report.
The officer said he had taken a stolen car report on March 27 and remembered the license plate.
After calling for backup, the officer spoke to Elizabeth Spurgeon and passenger Jason Sottilo. Spurgeon said she had borrowed the car from a friend to run some errands, according to the arrest report. She could only give the officer the friend's first name and had no information about where the friend was located, the report states.
Police say on further investigation, they found pills, a glasses case containing methamphetamine and a smoking pipe in the car.
Spurgeon, 44, was booked for possession of a stolen vehicle, drug and paraphernalia possession. Sottilo, 36, was booked on possession of a stolen vehicle, possession of stolen property and possession of a counterfeit check, all after former felony conviction. He also had an outstanding felony warrant in Tulsa County for unauthorized use of a credit card, according to Broken Arrow Police.
