The Oklahoma Highway Patrol is looking into what caused a deadly crash near Oologah Lake Monday night.
According to the OHP report, the driver was going at a high rate of speed on 340 Road east of Talala, when he went off the road and overcorrected. The SUV crashed into a mailbox and utility pole before ending up on its side.
The passenger, identified as 35-year-old Robert Mason of Claremore, was not wearing a seat belt and was thrown from the vehicle. He was pinned under the SUV and had to be extricated by the Northwest Rogers County Fire Department. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver, 40-year-old Demario Lucas of Collinsville, was injured, but refused treatment at the scene.
The condition of the driver is also under investigation.
