A man who spent four years in prison for killing three people is out of jail.

Steven Wade Jameson pleaded guilty to a car crash that killed Michael and Angela Mulanax and their son James on Christmas Eve of 2009; but a judge recently threw out his conviction and 24-year sentence.

Tuesday, Jameson's family and friends weren't the only ones supporting him, so was Amanda Mulanax, the only member of the family who was not in the car that night.

She was 15 years old when Jameson killed her parents and big brother. While Jameson’s been in prison, Amanda said they’ve been writing letters and that they've become friends.

She said she’s now standing by his side.

"I want to forgive Wade. I know it was just an accident and I wish everybody else could see that. It's just an accident," she said.

Amanda was among those hugging Jameson when he was released Tuesday after he got fitted with a GPS ankle monitor to wear until his next court date in late April.

Jameson’s mother, Debra Lowery-Jameson said, "I'm elated and hoping and praying for the real end of it."

Prosecutors say Jameson was driving 70 miles per hour on an icy road with pot in his car when he slammed into the Mulanax's vehicle, killing the high school sweethearts and their 18-year-old son.

Jameson's attorney says their client crashed because he'd turned to check on his puppy in the backseat.

They say he's a good kid who made a mistake and has been bettering himself in prison.

Records show four months before the crash, Jameson was ticketed by Stillwater police for being 19 in possession of beer. One year after the Mulanax crash, while out on bond, police found marijuana, beer and a smoking pipe in Jameson's apartment.

Linda Perkins wants justice for her daughter, son-in-law and grandson who died in the crash.

"They were the innocent victims in all this and everyone seems to keep forgetting that," she said.

Perkins hopes the appeals court will overturn the judge's decision to throw out Jameson's conviction and send him back to prison. If not, she hopes he's tried by a jury who finds him guilty.

She believes people are manipulating and using her granddaughter, Amanda, for their own purposes and disapproves that she is now supporting Jameson.

Amanda said Jameson is like a big brother to her now and she plans to see him daily. Her grandmother, however, says Amanda would actually have a big brother had Jameson not killed him.
