Beginning with the new year, the BOK Center is implementing additional security measures.
According to a news release, starting Tuesday, January 5, 2016, people going to events at the BOK Center will have to go through a new security process.
The new enhancements will include walk-through metal detectors at every arena entrance and size restrictions on all bags brought into the building.
They said bags no larger than 13 inches by 15 inches by 6 inches will be allowed inside and guests with bags larger than the allotted size will be asked to take them back to their vehicle or throw them away.
The BOK Center said it is unable to store over-sized or prohibited items.
The release says all bags, purses or personal items are still subject to search.
“The safety of each guest who enters the BOK Center is our top priority,” said General Manager Jeff Nickler. “These procedures are just one part of our larger security planning efforts that we’re undertaking for the new year to enhance the safety of our fans and our employees on all event and non-event days.”
Exceptions will be made for medically necessary items.
The release says with the new measures, doors will open 90 minutes prior to most events. It says fans are encouraged to arrive early to allow for extra time.
The BOK Center said the enhanced security procedures are becoming more common in arenas across the country.
