Second Judge Recuses Herself In Former Tulsa Deputy's Manslaughter Trial

A second judge has stepped down in the upcoming trial of former Tulsa County reserve deputy Robert Bates.News On 6 partner The Frontier reports Judge Sharon Holmes has recused herself from the case.

Bates' attorney told The Frontier neither side asked for judge Holmes to recuse. No word whether the trial will be delayed. 

TCSO Reserve Deputy Shooting Controversy

In October, Judge James Caputo recused himself in the case.  

Bates is supposed to go on trial in February 2016 in the shooting of Eric Harris, who died during an undercover sting.

A reason for Judge Holmes' recusal has not been released. According to the Oklahoma Campaign Reporting website, one of the attorneys representing Harris' family donated money to Judge Holmes' election campaign.

The site says Donald Smolen contributed $3,000 to the Committee to Elect Sharon Holmes District Judge 2014.
