All week long, News On 6 is sharing stories of veterans nominated to win an $800 mattress set from Bob Mills Furniture.
6 In The Morning anchors Rich Lenz, LeAnne Taylor and Alan Crone recently joined Bob Mills and Dr. Angie from Bob Mills Furniture to surprise five veterans with a lunch and a gift certificate for a new mattress set. They were all nominated by someone close to them.
Monday, News On 6 featured Derek Roberts, who served in the Army and National Guard from 2001 to 2012. Roberts was deployed twice, once to Kuwait and a second time to Iraq. Due to his declining health, Roberts was medically discharged from service.
"I've developed arthritis. So that's really kind of changed my life a lot. It's made me not be able to work, so I stay at home with the kids, which is good, but it's put a lot of stress on us," said Derek Roberts.
Roberts has a wife and two kids. He says this gift of a mattress set means a lot to him and his family.
On Tuesday it was Oklahoma National Guard Sergeant Patrick Perry.

He and his wife are expecting their fourth child. They lost their home to a fire right before Thanksgiving last year so a new mattress set will be welcome surprise for him.
