Child Left On Bus For Hours, Tulsa Police Investigating

Police served a search warrant at a Tulsa daycare after they said a 5-year-old boy was left alone on a bus for hours.

It happened August 26th at the KinderCare at 76th and Sheridan.

Tulsa police said the child was supposed to be dropped off with other children at an elementary school, but he never got off the bus.

They said the driver went back to the daycare and never realized the boy was on the bus, until six hours later when it was time to pick the kids up from school again.

Police said even though it was a very hot August day, the child was only dehydrated and hungry.

"It's extremely fortunate. It was, in fact it's rather shocking how well the child did recover from being left out in the car for that period of time," said TPD Sergeant, Michael Brown.

Kindercare says they're working with the Department of Human Services to make sure this never happens again.

In a statement they said:

“We were dismayed and saddened to learn that a five-year-old was mistakenly left in one of our center buses on August 26 for a period of time. That this happened is unacceptable, and is contrary to our values in providing a safe, nurturing atmosphere in our centers. We were relieved to learn from paramedics that the child did not require emergency medical treatment, and we are working with state licensing officials to determine how this oversight occurred and how we can be sure it will not occur again. The bus driver and center management team at the Sheridan Road KinderCare are no longer with our company.”
