KOTV's First Meteorologist Harry Volkman Dies

KOTV's first weatherman Harry Volkman who worked from 1950 to 1952 before moving on to Oklahoma City and then to Chicago passed away on Thursday according to his son.

KOTV's first weatherman Harry Volkman passed away on Thursday, according to his son. Volkman worked at KOTV from 1950 to 1952 before moving on to Oklahoma City and then to Chicago

He was 89.

His family said Volkman died of a respiratory ailment at Oakton Pavillion nursing home in Des Plaines, Illinois. 

After KOTV, Volkman moved to Oklahoma City and worked at WKY-TV, which is now KFOR, from 1952 to 1955.  He then moved over to KWTV from 1955 to 1959.

Volkman then moved north to Chicago, where he worked at WMAQ, WGN and WBBM before retiring in 2004 while working at WFLD. 

His family says there will be a private family funeral and at some point a public memorial service.
