Firefighters struggled to put out a burning tanker truck that caught fire at a gas station near Eufaula Wednesday afternoon.

The truck was delivering 4,500 gallons of diesel fuel to the Lakeview convenience store at Texanna Road about a half-mile east of Highway 69 when the fire started around 2 p.m. on Wednesday, August 5, 2015.

The fire was still burning at 4 p.m.

Leslie Phillips, Emergency Management Director for Checotah, said eight fire departments are on the scene. He said some of the firefighters had to be given IVs because of the heat. News On 6 meteorologist Mike Grogan said the heat index in that area was 110 degrees Wednesday afternoon.

Phillips said getting water to the scene has been a challenge.

So far no one has reported any injuries.

Texanna Road is closed for about a mile in each direction at the scene.
