A motorcycle rider has died and a passenger is in the hospital after a crash on Highway 412 near Sand Springs Wednesday evening, according to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.

Troopers said the 10:22 p.m. crash happened in the westbound lanes of the highway near 145th West Avenue.

They said both were taken to a Tulsa hospital, but the driver, George Hogan, 53, of Sand Springs was pronounced dead upon arrival.  The passenger, Debra Jones, 40, also of Sand Springs is listed in critical condition.

The OHP says the 1993 Honda Gold Wing hydroplaned, ran off the left side of the highway striking a cable barrier.

Troopers said neither rider was wearing a helmet and the motorcycle was traveling at an unsafe speed at the time of the crash.  No other vehicles were involved.
