Police have released more information after officers discovered a body in a north Tulsa apartment early Tuesday. Officers found the 31-year-old man at the Comanche Park Apartments at 36th Street North and Peoria at about 2 a.m.
Police were initially called about a burglary in progress after a woman said someone was breaking into her apartment. They said the woman left the apartment with her two children, ages one and five, after making the call.
She told them her husband was still in the apartment, and they found his body in a bedroom. He had been shot to death, according to Homicide Sergeant David Walker.
Walker said it appears three to four men tried to kick in the victim's front door then back door but were unsuccessful. They finally made it into the apartment through a window.
He said the woman did not know her husband was dead until police found him during the investigation.
Homicide detectives have talked with the woman and are interviewing residents at the complex. Walker believes the break-in was drug related, that the suspects were after marijuana they thought was in the home.
Police haven't released the name of the man, and no one has been arrested. They have not released suspect descriptions.
The wife has been reunited with her children after they stayed with family members while she was questioned, Walker said.
