Drowning Victim Recovered At Copan Lake

Crews recovered a body from Copan Lake Friday evening. The Oklahoma Highway Patrol got a call about 4:30 Friday afternoon of a possible drowning.

Crews recovered a body from Copan Lake Friday evening.

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol got a call about 4:30 Friday afternoon of a possible drowning.

Witnesses told troopers, three people went to an area of Copan Lake that was restricted because of high water.

According to OHP, 27-year-old, Justin P. Albert, told friends he was going to jump off the dock and touch the bottom of the lake but never resurfaced.

Search crews used side scan sonar and the and the drag tool to locate Albert's body. OHP said it was found around 7:10 p.m. about 100 feet from the shoreline in 18 feet of water.

According to the Corps of Engineers website, right now, the lake is more than 15 feet above normal.
