Police identified the teenage girl killed Thursday evening after someone in another car fired several shots at her car in downtown Tulsa.

According to police, Crystal Gutierrez Garza would have turned 20 next month.

Officers said Garza and her boyfriend were headed north on Houston near 6th Street at about 9 p.m. Thursday when someone in another vehicle also headed north fired at least three shots at her car. Police said one of those shots hit Garza. Her boyfriend, who was sitting next to her, stopped the car at 3rd and Houston about a block from the BOK Center.

Officers said Garza was pronounced dead at the scene. The passenger was not injured.

Police closed Houston between 3rd and 6th Streets for several hours looking for shell casings. Investigators also interviewed several witnesses trying to get a description of the shooter's vehicle.

Police have not said if this was a random shooting or the victim's vehicle was targeted.
