The number of deaths in Oklahoma caused by the flu jumped since last week.

The Oklahoma State Department of Health reports the number of influenza-related deaths is now at 31 compared to 22 a week ago.

Four of the newest flu-related deaths occurred in eastern Oklahoma. The OSDH says Tulsa County recorded two new influenza deaths since last week, bringing their total to four. Ottawa and Pittsburg counties have each recorded their first flu death since the current flu season began on September 28, 2014.

The OSDH says while 23 of the flu deaths are people 65 years of age or older, three of the deaths so far this flu season are children 17 years of age or younger.
