Close to 100 kids from the Tulsa area got a chance sharpen their soccer skills and meet country music superstar Garth Brooks during a soccer camp Saturday in Jenks.

Brooks was the most well-known soccer dad on the pitch over the last several years in Northeastern Oklahoma. His daughters played soccer for Owasso and club teams around Green Country while they were growing up.

"I immediately go back to watching my own girls with their coaches," Brooks said. "In fact, one of their coaches is here with us today, a couple of their ex-teammates are here today. It's cool the circle just keeps going and it's all about kids."

The camp was hosted by University of Memphis head men's soccer coach Richard Mulrooney with help from the University of Tulsa women's soccer team.

At each of his tour stops, Brooks comes out to meet the kids who attend the free camp through his Teammates for Kids Foundation. The kids at Saturday's skills camp were from the Mabee Red Shield Boys and Girls Club.

"I never knew he was going to be here... it's awesome, I'm dead serious," said Kevin, who lives at the Tulsa Boys Home.

Tulsa Boys Home Executive Director Gregg Conway said his kids were blown away when they learned they would get to attend the camp.

"We've got a soccer field back at the boys' home, so when we got invited to this Garth Brooks sponsored soccer camp, we just couldn't hardly contain ourselves... the boys couldn't hardly contain themselves," Conway said.
