A previous version of this story stated that two adult males were at the mobile home with the woman that was killed and the baby; however, it was an adult male and female - the son and daughter of the deceased.
A 54-year-old woman is dead and an infant hospitalized following an overnight fire at a mobile home park in Longtown, according to Pittsburg County Sheriff Joel Kerns.
The sheriff said the baby was unresponsive and covered in black soot when he was brought out of the trailer. The infant was taken by medical helicopter to Tulsa after treatment in Eufaula.
"There was a neighbor that actually went into the house and pulled the lady out," Kerns said. "Unfortunately, she didn't make it."
Crews were called to the Sportsman's Addition mobile home park at about 6:40 a.m. Monday. Kerns said the woman, two adult males and a 2- to 3-month old baby were home when the fire broke out.
Authorities are not releasing the woman's name until notification of family is made, Kerns said. The two men were not injured, and the sheriff believed the neighbor who tried to help got out safely as well.
The area had close to an inch of snow in Sunday's winter weather. Although the state fire marshal is determining an official cause, heating the trailer may have played a role in the fire, he said.
The mobile home was a complete loss.
