Dozens Of Wrecks Reported On Slick Green Country Roads

Tulsa Police, EMSA and the Oklahoma Highway Patrol all reported going to numerous wrecks during Sunday's winter weather.

TPD and OHP both responded to injury wrecks only starting as the sleet and snow began to fall.

EMSA spokesperson Kelli Bruer said her agency was called to 28 motor vehicle wrecks by 3 p.m. All but two were in Tulsa. No serious injuries were reported.

By Sunday afternoon, many roads in northeastern Oklahoma had improved although the Department of Public Safety reports some slick spots along the Will Rogers Turnpike.

Tulsa area troopers worked 12 crashes since 6 a.m.today. Seven of the crashes occurred in Tulsa County. Three of those crashes occurred after 2 p.m.

Storm spotter Mark Folta came across a single-vehicle wreck on 66th Street North in Owasso where a driver left the roadway and took out a utility pole near Highway 169. No injuries were reported.

"Crews in other areas of the state continue to monitor changing conditions and are prepared to treat highways and bridges with salt and sand as needed as freezing temperatures and precipitation are expected to continue," a Department of Safety traffic advisory stated.

Operation Slick Streets means police will not respond to a wreck if there are no injuries. They advise drivers to take pictures of the damage then move cars out of the roadway as quickly as possible.

In addition to the damage, take pictures of the person's license plate, their insurance verification card and even their driver's license.
